Australian fitness phenomenon, Kayla Itsines has been blazing the workout trail fast establishing a large and loyal following. With the support of her 14.4million+ social media followers Kayla’s app, Sweat with Kayla has hit the top of the Apple App Store in the health and fitness category in over 70 countries, and her BBG program has transformed the lives and bodies of women worldwide. Fans not only follow her on Instagram, they pack stadiums to experience her workout sessions first hand.
Kayla is taking her high-intensity, 28-minute Bikini Body Guide to print with her very first book, The Bikini Body 28-Day Healthy Eating & Lifestyle Guide. We caught up with Kayla, who recently appeared in Miami for her book launch and signing to get the scoop.
The book presents a four-week plan featuring over 200 delicious and healthful recipes, alongside a corresponding workout plan, which includes Kayla’s signature 28-Minute workouts and a one week free access code to the Sweat with Kayla app. Kayla appears throughout the book presenting a variety of nourishing food she makes and eats to fuel her body with the energy it needs to keep healthy, fit and strong!
How did you get started in the fitness lifestyle?
I’ve always been active, even from an early age, and I played a lot of sports when I was younger. My passion for helping people and my interest in fitness is what lead me to study personal training at the Australian Institute of Fitness. It’s wonderful to be able to combine my two passions into a career!
You give tons of great advice: via your app, website, social outlets and now through your book, is there is ONE (non-negotiable) thing that everyone looking to start or optimize a healthy lifestyle should practice?
I believe everyone’s different, so what may work for someone may not work for someone else, which is why it’s so important to listen to your body and do what works for YOU. Getting a friend to workout with is a great place to start. That way, you can motivate and support each other through your fitness journey. It’s great to have someone to look to on those days when you aren’t feeling motivated to workout. The BBG Community is a great source of inspiration AND motivation for me some days, as well as for lots of other women around the world. I’m so lucky to be a part of such an amazing group of women!

Any favorite recipes from the book?
It’s so hard to pick a favourite, but one recipe that I absolutely love is Yemista (stuffed capsicum with rice). My YiaYia (Grandma) always made it for me when I was younger, and still does! It’s great to be able to share recipes like this in my book!
Would you say the book is an extension of the app?
I think the book is its own product, however it includes all of my methodology from my Sweat With Kayla app. As a hard copy, it’s something tangible that women can keep in their home to refer to. The Bikini Body 28-Day Healthy Eating & Lifestyle Guide uses elements that are similar to what’s in the BBG program, so it can be used with the Sweat With Kayla app, or on its own. It offers something for everyone!
